This week long event held in Northland showcases the best surfers of the competition circuit in New Zealand. Weather had been perfect with clear blue skies. The beginning of the week the points of Shippies was working and Pines was chosen. By all accounts it was cranking. Later on that week the swell died somewhat and the more exposed location of The Bluff  was chosen. I got up there for finals day. With a week long battle it was sure to be a clash of the titans. Maz Quinn and Daniel Kereopa were jostling for first place in the open men's. Maz finally took the lead but it was a closely run event.
